EVENING PRAYER

O Lord as we reflect on this day, we pray that we have sown good seeds today; for you tell us in your word “… whatever one sows, that will he also reap. Galatians 6:7 We pray that we have sown mercy and love that we may reap a bountiful harvest of Godly character—your grace. Your word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path today; Psalm 119:105 You are that good shepherd that leads us and that laid down his life for us. John 10:11 You tell us in your word: “As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man.” Proverbs 27:19 As we pray this evening and look at ourselves, we pray that more and more that the man that is reflected is a reflection of you!

O Lord, we know that “… the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 May those thoughts and intentions of our hearts be right with you; for “… surely my right is with the Lord, and my recompense with my God.” Isaiah 49:4 Thank you today that you are our judge for you are a righteous judge that sees the heart, knows the heart and knows the intent of the heart. “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting! Psalm 139:23-24

We pray that if there is any grievous way in us that you will purge our hearts, souls, and minds of them; that you will cleanse us, fill us with the Holy Spirit so that with pure hearts we reflect the light of the Holy Spirit to those that are lost—to those who need a safe harbor and to those who are in danger of being shipwrecked on the shoals of sin.

O Lord, we cannot express the depth of our gratitude! We are “…grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe.” Hebrews 12:28 With reverence and awe, we worship you today! You say in your word, “The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to the one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!” Psalm 50:23 “I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.” Psalm 9:1 And wegive thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” I Thessalonians 5:18 Thank you for salvation. Thank you that our salvation is in Jesus Christ.

A beautiful song of praise and worship says, “…I have nothing fit for a King but a hallelujah…” So we will give you our thanksgiving and praise and our hallelujahs and worship; for even “…the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” Isaiah 55:12 “And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” Revelation 5:13 This evening as we reflect on this day, we along with all creation are grateful for your goodness to us; and we join in praise and worship of you with all of your creation.

We thank you for your grace, O Lord—your steadfast love and abundant mercy. You extended much grace to us today; for by grace you have saved us through faith. Ephesians 2:8 We “…are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:24 Thank you that we are under grace; Romans 6:14 and that we have received grace upon grace. John 1:16 We have been strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus today. II Timothy 2:1 Thank you for the strength we find in your grace!

Lord, this evening we seek righteousness and humility. You teach us in your word in many places, that humility comes before honor! Proverbs 15:33 & James 4:10 & I Peter 5:6 So this evening we humble ourselves and we pray and we seek your face. We pray that this day we have done nothing from selfish ambition or conceit; but rather we have counted others more significant than ourselves. Philippians 2:3 As you taught us, we pray that this day we have been “…last of all and servant of all.” Mark 9:35 We humbly ask that you lead us in what is right and teach us your ways, O Lord. Psalm 25:9

We pray that if the intent of our hearts was not right before you today that you will forgive us. Acts 8:22 Now forgive us our every trespass as we forgive those that trespass against us. Matthew 6:12 Thank you for your promise to forgive us when we forgive others. Matthew 6:14 “This is my comfort … , that your promise gives me life.” Psalm 119:50 Thank you for your help today, O Lord; for I know that “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:2

Now we surrender any worries or fears we may have this evening. We will not be anxious about anything; but we will pray with thanksgiving. Now may the peace of God which surpasses all understanding guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 “O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it. Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. Psalm 139:1-10 May I always be known by you, O Lord, and may I always be in your presence I pray!

O Lord, I thank you for my wife, and our family this evening. We pray that each of them will seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness. Matthew 6:33 And if they abide in him, and his words abide in them, they can ask whatever they wish, and it will be done for them. John 15:7 He will supply all of their needs abundantly. We pray that they will seek counsel from the Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace for all of their problems; for he says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” Psalm 32:8 We pray that all of them are “in-Christ.” Keep them from harm this evening, we pray.

Again, we thank you for this day. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 And we know that “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” James 1:17 Thank you Lord for those things that made us grow today. We will not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving we will let our requests be made known to God! Philippians 4:6 For you tell us in your word, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13 We seek you this evening with all of our heart!

Now let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts, and let the word of Christ dwell in us richly, that we may teach and admonish one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in our hearts to God. Colossians 3:15-16 We now pray for peace and rest. “In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Psalm 4:8 Thank you Lord for your promise to us, “If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.” Proverbs 3:24 “I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me.” Psalm 16:7 We ask that you speak to us as we sleep. In Jesus name we pray.

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,

for ever. Matthew 6:9-13 [KJV]

To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. I Timothy 1:17
